A Case Of Evil Reviewed In TV Guide

October16

A Case Of Evil (in which REG plays Mycroft Holmes – Sherlock’s older, reclusive brother) has been reviewed in this week’s TV Guide (US). It’s in the “Hits and Misses” of the week and got a 9/10 (an unusually high score for this columnist). The reviewer cites the excellent acting, although REG is not specifically mentioned. This film looks like another excellent REG film. It was also reviewed (BTW) in the current Sherlock magazine, a British publication. The reviewer also liked the film a great deal and mentioned also The Hound Of The Baskervilles (in which REG plays Stapleton). The opening paragraph of the 2-page article talks about both forthcoming films saying the only thing in common is that the “both star Holmes veteran Richard E Grant”

The author noted REG’s portrayal of Mycroft very positively – despite the physical disparity between what’s in print and on the screen (Mycroft is a large, lazy man – albeit brilliant in print).

REG appearences this week:

Saturday 18th 12.30am (Sun) Warlock Sky Movies Max 5
Sunday 19th 11.10am The Little Vampire Sky Movies Prem 3
Sunday 19th 7.00pm The Little Vampire Sky Movies Prem 3
Monday 20th 11.10pm The Scarlet Pimpernel UK Drama
Tuesday 21st 2.50am The Scarlet Pimpernel UK Drama
Thursday 24th 09.00 p.m. The Scarlet Pimpernel UK Drama

Thanks go to Barbara B. and Rosemary for the news.

Famous “Miscasting” Roles – Against All Odds

October11

Empire Online 2002

Candidate:

Richard E Grant – Withnail & I
1996 (sic)
Director: Bruce Robinson

Description:

Teetotal, non-smoker Grant probably wouldn’t have been anybody’s first choice for the role of the foul-mouthed, lighter-fuel-swigging Withnail. But, caught out in the rain before the audition, he clearly looked the part and director Bruce Robinson cast him anyway. Actually allergic to alcohol and thus free from its evil clutches, Grant did take the plunge to get in the right frame of mind for his role and “filled a tumbler with vodka and topped it off with a bit of Pepsi.” The resulting show was apparently so funny, co-star Paul McGann joked that he’d never be able to top it on film.

Verdict:

Argos, Fatal Death, AbFab, Posh Nosh & Pimpernel

October9

REG appears in a new Argos ad, sitting in back of limousine when inspiration strikes. His personal assistant stumbles into Argos store to purchase guitar for the maestro and the ad ends with REG singing!

Debbie informs me that the Oxygen channel has started showing AbFab on Saturday and Sunday. At 2:30pm (central) Saturday, Oct. 19, is Hospital/Death which is the episode that REG appears in.

Barbara B. has noted on the mailing list that Curse of the Fatal Death is now available on video from Barnes and Noble for $12.99. REG only appears for about 2 minutes but both minutes are good ones! There is a “Making of…” documentary on the tape as well. Richard is the Dr Who virgin – probably the only one in the cast and crew who’d never really done the Dr Who thing as a young man. He is really endearing and quite funny/sweet/lost in the whole process in the short interview clips. Well worth the money!

And this snippet taken from BBC website. Still no airing dates on this I’m afraid.

Posh Nosh.

Minty (Arabella Weir) and Simon (Richard E Grant) wouldn’t call themselves the only two cooks on television. That would be bad breeding. Just don’t mention Delia, Nigella or that oik with the scooter within a mile of their 17th-century Buckinghamshire mansion.

Learn to relax an avocado, bamboozle a parsnip or shave a fennel. See why you need an Aga, a title and a dog. Marvel at the happiest of marriages, while Minty sweats in the kitchen and Simon “supervises” his wine cellar and practises his backhand with his live-in tennis coach Jose, in the cookery show to end all cookery shows.

Finally, REG returns as The Scarlet Pimpernel at 9pm next Thursday, UK Drama. It’s likely to be a repeat of the first series.

Strictly Sinatra Trailer, Video & DVD

October3

Jolie informs me that Strictly Sinatra has been released on video in the UK (PAL) and DVD (both UK and US). There’s also a trailer of the film at http://www.strictly-sinatra.com. You can catch a glimpse of REG in it.

And Rosemary says that the only TV appearances of REG in the coming week seem to be “The Little Vampire” at 10.25 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. on Saturday 5th October, on Sky Premier 4.
