Richard E. Grant – Official Website

ACTOR…DIRECTOR…AUTHOR…LEGEND!>>>>REG Temple

Welcome To The REG Temple

The REG Temple is the official website for actor, author and director Richard E. Grant.

Richard has appeared in over 80 films and television programs, such as Withnail And I, The Scarlet Pinmpernel, Jack & Sarah, L.A. Story, Dracula, The Hound Of The Baskervilles, Gosford Park & The Iron Lady. In 2005 he directed his first major release, Wah-Wah.

This website is unique in that it has been run and maintained by volunteers and fans since 1998. For more information on its origins, please click here.

Mycroft Holmes And Young Richard

February3

Charles emailed me to say that he found the site while doing a bit of research on an upcoming production called “A Case of Evil”. He mentiond that REG is playing Sherlock Holmes’ older brother Mycroft in the production, and he thought The Temple might be interested in an image of REG in character as Mycroft Holmes. You can see that pic here.

The television film is expected to be completed in the summer of 2002 and air on Channel 4 in the UK. To read more about it, go to:

http://www.bakerstreetdozen.com/caseofevil.html.

Jolie sent in a recent pic of REG & Kelly McDonald that she found in a magazine. The article was on Robert Altman and Gosford Park, but there was no mention of Richard in it.

Speaking of all things Gosford, Jenny sent The REG Temple some screen shots from Saturday nights’ “Robert Altman’s Omnibus”. You can see some shots from the actual interview with REG from the program here.

And for all those people who wanted to see a pic or two of REG as a child then here’s a couple taken from an article in the Sunday Magazine, 1996. Most of you will probably recognise Richard, but just in case anyone’s wondering he’s the one on the left in the B&W pic and on the right in the colour one.

Cancer Care For Children And The Gosford House

February1

Richard and Olivia attended the Burns Night Supper recently in aid of Sargent Cancer Care for Children. You can click here for a pic of them.

Denise says that she was watching BBC News last night on satellite they had a piece on the house which was used as Gosford Park. It is Wrotham Park and is in south-west London relatively near Pinewood/Entree studios. Built in 1759 in the popular Palladian style it has been occupied by the same family for nearly 250 years. (sorry she didn’t catch their surname.) It has been used for filming before – Lady Chatterley’s Lover and episodes of Morse.

According to the report whilst the upstairs rooms were used for filming the downstairs is entirely studio filmed. The present owner stated that the money the house earned contributed towards its upkeep.

As the film is officially released today its review was given the prime slot in The Independent’s Friday Review. Bits of interest:

“Antagonisms are rife down here too, between Mrs Wilson and the cook (Eileen Atkins) between head housemaid Elsie (Emily Watson) and the new Scots valet Henry (Ryan Philippe), between the first footman (Richard E Grant) and anyone he thinks he can lord it over. The society in which the upper hand matters to no one doesn’t exist.”

“The size of the cast more or less precludes the possibility of a star turn, yet even with relatively little to do, some performers excel. I love Richard E Grant’s snitty footman, flaring condescension down his nostrils ….”

Also it seems that REG has finally made it into the colour print ads for Gosford Park! You can see the new – and greatly enhanced – rendition of the print ad here, courtesy of The Independent.

Backstage With REG And Another BAFTA Pic

January30

Here’s a cool pic that Nikki sent me from backstage at “The Play What I Wrote”. I think you’ll agree that Richard looks rather suave!

Click here to see another picture of Richard after announcing the BAFTAs nominations on Monday 25th Feb 2002.

Richard was also at the premiere of “Vanilla Sky” the other night.

REG “Talks” On BAFTA Announcement

January29

Well as you know REG was to announce the nominations for the BAFTA awards yesterday. He finally made it to the venue after some complications (some of you may have seen some highlights of the announcements in the news and heard about the troubles REG had in getting there). In Richard’s own words (via email):

“I apparently turned up as a news item this morning, as i had to be biked into piccadilly yesterday to announce the bafta nominations as the trains were on strike. ‘gosford park’ which opens friday, garnered nine nominations as well as best director for altman at the golden globes last week.”

Last nights “Film 2002” (UK) showed Richard standing at a podium reading the nominations. There was a short interview with him (was he wearing the orange jacket in support of sponsors?) and there was even film showing the press photo opportunity with Richard holding a BAFTA award.
