Those who have read With Nails (reference: page 8 of the US edition) may recall Richard mentioning that there was a Radio Times blurb on Honest, Decent and True (the UK TV show which got him the audition for Withnail) in which his name appears.
Ever wondered what the snippet looked like? Jolie managed to track down the magazine, so here’s a scan of the blurb. No pic of Richard but you can at least see his name in print.
Here’s another article from Jolie’s collection of wonderful REG articles. This one is from a 1998 issue of the Australian HQ magazine. It’s an interesting read and a little more comprehensive than most other articles written about Richard.
In other news, Richard will be on Radio 4 next week in a play titled “Dancing With The Dead” – 2.15 on Thursday 14th February.

And finally Jason Isaacs has signed to play Luscious Malfoy In Harry Potter, so REG is out (but then we already suspected this.) More’s the pity I say.

Thanks to Denise I have a whole heap of Gosford Park stuff to share with The REGiment.
On Sunday The Evening Standard British film awards was held in London. Robert Altman received the Best Film award for Gosford Park. The awards are in their 29th year and are only given to “homegrown” films.
Saturday’s Independent gave Gosford Park 5 out of 5 as “outstanding”, and described Richard as “the mischievous valet.” However the Sunday Mail had his correct employment enthusing him as “deliciously cast-against type Richard E Grant is a footman with wandering hands.” The reviewer, despite declaring he was dying to see the film again, gave the film 4 out of 5.
The Denise Hale award for the weirdest comment in a film review goes to Jonathan Romney of The Independent on Sunday for “Does any living actor have quite as Thirties-shaped head as Richard E Grant?”
Denise also wrote up a report of the Robert Altman Omnibus which you can read here.
Don’t forget you can see Jenny’s wonderful pics from the program on the site. Pics of REG being interviewed are here.

Kim Basinger and Tracey Ullman in Edgar Allen Poe remake.
Kim Basinger and Tracey Ullman are set to star in a modern re-working of the Edgar Allen Poe classic The Raven. They are likely to be joined by Greg Kinnear, Linda Hunt and Richard E Grant in the black comedy. The film is being developed by Columbia Pictures.
In the 1963 original, which was directed by Roger Corman, Vincent Price and Boris Karloff played two rival sorcerers battling for supremacy.
The story has now been transformed to modern day Los Angeles, with two women using their mystical powers to make a TV producer fall in love with them.
The film is due to go into production next Summer, with Ron Howard directing.
On other matters, Emma finally got her scanner working and thought she would scan her recent Richard autograph for The Regiment to see. Emma got the autograph after she, Denise and Elaine saw “The Play What I Wrote” in which Richard starred. The autograph was signed on a card that Denise and Elaine got for Emma’s 19th birthday. You can see the card here.

Here’s Emma’s birthday card, personally autographed by Richard, when she, Denise and Elaine saw “The Play What I Wrote” in which Richard starred. Denise and Elaine got the card for Emma’s 19th birthday, so Richard’s autograph was the icing on the cake and topped off a great day!
