Pimpernel Airs In The U.S.

July3

Sue reports:

Bravo TV channel in the USA will finally be airing the second Scarlet Pimpernel Series starting on July 14. Time to get the tapes and VCR ready. The schedule is as follows:

Episode 1: Ennui
Sunday July 14 @ 9pm and Midnight Eastern
Monday July 15 @ 5pm Eastern

Episode 2: Friends and Enemies
Sunday July 21 @ 9pm Eastern
Monday July 22 @ 3am and 5pm Eastern

Episode 3: A Good Name
Sunday July 28 @ 9pm and Midnight Eastern
Monday July 29 @ 5pm Eastern

This engaging Bravo original production of the classic story about an English fop who saves aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution stars Richard E. Grant. (Can you believe they show a picture of Douglas Sills from the Broadway production instead of Richard on the Bravo site!)

I hope all who have not had the opportunity to see these last three will finally get their chance!

Richard Hosts Macworld Awards

June27

The winners of the Macworld Awards 2002 were announced at a glittering black-tie event on Friday June 21 at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Macworld editors and readers voted for the year’s best products. Sponsors included: HP, Minolta-QMS, Apple, Square Solutions, PDE, MacUnlimited, MacExpo, Phase One, Thomson Multimedia, and Digit magazine. The event was hosted by actor Richard E. Grant Grant – a high-profile attendee at the MacExpo last year. At that time, he described himself as a technosaurus with an Apple laptop”.

Which just goes to show that “Appleness is close to REGiness!”

Gosford Park DVD Released

June26

For those of you who have Region 1 DVD capabilities, Gosford Park is now available to buy and rent.

The DVD has a lot of extras, including snippets of deleted scenes and some of them with REG in them. It also includes The Making of Gosford Park and some cast filmographies. REG is one of the cast members talking about the filming but most of the commentary is by Robert Altman, as would probably be expected. Other cast members such as Helen Mirren and Ryan Philippe have more “air time” than REG, but at least he’s there!

There is also a feature that shows some of the scenes that were deleted in the final cut. There were a lot, and quite a few of the cut scenes would have helped explain some of the stuff that was left in. This is usually the case with cut scenes however. These excluded scenes can still be found intact in the Shooting Script though, so if you want to know what was and wasn’t included in the final film then you’ll just have to get the script and read it.

The film probably would have stretched to over 3 hours had all scenes been included and REG lost about three scenes of dialogue in the cut.

Thanks to Pat for the info.
