Help Save Crow Crag – Uncle Monty’s Country Retreat

January30

Sleddale Hall

Vig from the Crow Crag Collective emailed me the other day (sorry for the delay, Vig). Some of you may be aware of the news that Sleddale Hall, the setting for Uncle Monty’s country retreat in “Withnail And I”, is up for auction on the 16th of February. The Crow Crag Collective is aiming to purchase the house to save it from property development or, worse still, demolition. Anyone interested in helping out — or making a donation — can check out the website at www.savesleddalehall.com.

Richard E Grant interviews Andrew Denton in final Enough Rope

Tables turned … Andrew Denton was surprised to find himself the subject of Richard E Grant’s questions in the final Enough Rope after his chat with Ben Stiller.

In his final moments in control of Enough Rope, Andrew Denton yesterday found himself at the end of the noose, after actor Richard E Grant emerged to interview him during the taping of the ABC chat show. Denton had spent more than an hour dissecting what turned out to be the most interesting mind of Ben Stiller when the tables were turned on the inquisitor, reports media writer Marcus Casey.

After quizzing the Zoolander star on his Hollywood life, wife, use of LSD and more, the show’s producers set Denton up to re-record the interview’s introduction. He returned to the studio only to discover that Grant was sitting in his chair. The My Fair Lady stage star – who featured in a June episode of the show two years ago – then grilled Denton with a mixture of serious and stunt questions about the highs and lows of interviewing almost 500 guests in 191 episodes of the six-year series.

Denton, now concentrating on producing programs, revealed his most interesting interview in the show’s history had been with author and former New York homeless crackhead Lee Stringer. “Of all the people I’ve spoken to he seemed the most wise and settled in life,” Denton told the live audience.

Stiller warmed to the Australian interviewer’s researched style, declaring at one point: “Boy you know a lot about my life.” Impressed by the personal exchange, Stiller later joked “this has been great. Normally on a talk show you’re told to come out and be funny for six minutes, but I like sitting here and being boring for an hour.”

The program’s floor crew and staff from Denton’s production firm then partied into the evening.
